An Incomplete Love Story
He’d loved her deeply in his prime
And she’d had only eyes for him,
But life’s demands need little time
To turn those bright hopes strangely dim.
For she, the eldest of the fold
Had obligations to fulfil;
Her Mother, wheelchair-bound and old
Demanded daily her good will.
The months went by and both agreed
That though their feelings were the same.
The marriage vows could not proceed
Whilst duty’s heartstrings made their claim.
And so the passing years rolled by
He’d wed, had children, so it seemed
And she, alone, would often sigh
And mourn the life of which she’d dreamed.
