Notes About The Poem

I've always known that the love you had for me was a true love and it's only now in my life that perhaps Karma is opening my eyes, and my heart, to your painful perspective.

An Eye For An Eye

I found the one, I believe
was truly meant to be
but not before you believed
you found the same in me

I remember how much it meant to you
when I reached for your hand
I never thought it was that big a deal
but now I understand

The way you used to crave my touch
to feel our skin on skin
Yours raging hot, mine soft and cool
no matter where or when

Now I know the ache you felt
each time he passes by
every time he reaches out
something melts inside

I couldn't count how many times
you tried to make me see
that somehow all your drive in life
you then derived from me.

Now his support and steady faith
I've found to fuel a fire
He sees my diamond in the rough
and keeps my dreams inspired

When you and I said our goodbyes
I never felt your pain.
I was overwhelmed with under-wow
so tired from the strain.

Now I know what could have been
if we had found a way
to live our lives in harmony
and thankful for each day.

I found this love so late in life
I fear how long it lasts
Time is now my enemy
as youthful days have passed

In the stillness of the night
I fight the tears I cry
I know what Karma has in store
for me with his goodbye.

It is almost always an enlightening experience to see life from a different perspective. Most folks don't take the time. We seem to live in a "me first" society, which unfortunately means to hell with what anybody else thinks. Great write, as usual, Jeannie:)
