An Empty Chair in Sandy Hook

For some this might have been a season of joy
No longer after losing their precious girl or boy
An evil fiend came and took it all away
What pleasure can there be on that day?
Holiday presents that have been bought
Were placed under the tree for naught
No little child can now, on that day
Look with delight and then to play
Even to sing a seasonal song
Now, somehow, will seem wrong
Brilliant lights of green and blue
Now have taken on a somber hue
Though families still gather there
In sorrow will see an empty chair
True, time will somewhat heal
The pain and emptiness they feel
There are no suitable words to say
It never should have been this way
