An Empire of Dirt

An Empire of Dirt

The whispers of fate
On life’s boulevard
Of yesterdays dreams
Once broken and barred
Talk of the journey
So painfully hard
That everyone on it
Was emotionally scarred

The tale of a man
Who had not a care
But screamed up to the heavens
That life just isn’t fair
He wished to be happy
But did not prepare
For first sight of a woman
With the sun in her hair

As he looked for a moment
At her smile and her eyes
While the light from the heavens
Shone down from the skies
Something about her
Seemed to hypnotize
As she looked back upon him
Right through his disguise
She knew he was different
But to her surprise
He kneeled down before her
And closed both his eyes

Something about him
His ludicrous charm
Screamed heartache and danger
Which raised an alarm
But some how she knew
He meant her no harm
So she slowly leaned over
And helped him up by the arm

He followed her over
And that’s where he met
A girl as precious
As princess’s get
And over came running
A boy so handsome
Who could talk him a dollar
Out of near anyone
When he saw them all smile
It made him believe
That there wasn’t anything
He couldn’t achieve
Then he felt his lip curl
And point to the sky
What ever just happened
He could not deny
That what he was feeling
Was his reason why
Heaven had spared him
So many times
And gave him the visions
And the power of rhymes
So he could perfect
What he wanted to say
Cause the toes on his tongue
Always got in his way
It all seemed so easy
Back at the start
But now they have towers
Surrounding their hearts
And none of them knows
How grand it can be
Cause tomorrow is blackened
By uncertainty
And they all feel trapped
By tides of eternity
The ripples of fate
Echoing through endlessly
Repaying the debts
Of his insanity
But they all stand behind him
Drowning in hurt
As he seeks out redemption
In his empire of dirt
