An Elusive Feeling
A harsh mistress to face each night,
reality dabbles in pain.
And at the very edge of fright,
youth enters the Devil's domain.
Innocence gets lost in life's game,
in your naive search for a friend.
And yet, you've only Hope to blame;
if there's no winner at the end.
Fantasies and wishes trick you
into thinking love's on its way.
Yet you're feeling lonely and blue,
and smiles seldom come into play.
Love is an elusive feeling
that's skilled at hiding in plain sight.
And though it sets your heart reeling;
it can disappear overnight.
