An Approach To Rubies
I spent my day shopping for rubies
Really shopped - not just fumbled around
My wife mentioned it for her birthday -
Just like that I was jewelry store bound
Although jewelry is not my forte
I am a take charge person from birth
Told the clerk I looked for fine rubies
And would call when I found some of worth
For show I brought out my jeweler's loop
And began to inspect the whole lot
When I had looked some the clerk pointed,
"Sir, these are rubies and those are not"
"Well, sir", says I, "If that don't beat all"
Then I put away my jeweler's glass
Swallowed my pride and my phony airs
And explained the birthday for my lass
Now and then I look back and I smile
The rubies he chose are my wife's pride
Of course I took all of the credit
But only the clerk knows that I lied
I send him a Christmas card each year
And I shop for jewelry only there
It's nice to have that wink between us
You do not get that just anywhere
