An African Morning

AN AFRICAN MORNING Stretching and yawning Me every dawning The cock crowing Dawn’s breaking Sun rising. Cows mowing wanting milking Sheep bleating wanting grazing The wind blowing Cold biting Trees swaying Birds chirping. Goats fighting Hens scratching Worms hiding Shallow brooks flowing. Fire blazing at the blacksmith’s hearth Water boiling I have to go milk. Kids up and shouting Jembe to the firm whistling An African morning, Never quiet never boring.
