An Acquired Taste

I want to be a fireman
I want to be a cop
I want to be a celebrity
Don't want to work at I-Hop

I want to be a quarterback
I want to be a split end
I want to be a running back
Don't want to be a lineman

I want to be a doctor
And wear a long white gown
Or maybe I'll be Mayor
And get the keys to the town

I want to be a general
And lead my troops to war
I don't want to be a librarian
That looks like a real bore

I want to be a movie star
  And drive a fancy car...
But did you ever hear a kid say
  You know what?
I want to be a poet!

LOL. Come to think of it, I don't think I ever did hear a kid say that. But funny you should mention IHOP. That was my first job as a busboy...Love this, Gershon

Very gracious of you to encourage me, given where you first worked. Quite a coincidence, I'd say. Thank you, Charlie. Best always, Gershon

I spur my family on to write poetry. Some fight it vehemently. Others embrace it if only for a school assignment. ...and I work at a library and love it! It is like a candy store. I used to think there was only old books but oh my....lol!

Thank you for your gracious reply, esp. considering the knock I put on librarians. Much appreciated, as always, Kim. :) gw

Can't say I have heard a kid say that it was always astronaut, train driver, footballer when I was at school. But poets we are, a fine bunch of folk. Tom

Yes, we have all morphed our way to Poetry Soup, one way or the other. Thank you for commenting, Tom. Best wishes, Gershon

NOPE. that is not one that you hear being said . I really like this one. (though I would much prefer librarian to general)

OK, Commander! … Seriously, I can certainly understand your preference, … and am glad you like this little ditty. Best wishes, Gershon
