An Absurd Story
A story absurd today I count, hope you appreciate.
An admirable old man lives in a blue house with white gate.
He has for company, a cat, the colour of soot and ash.
Rats pray they are not to be caught, for with her paws she will bash!
Fat and cunning she sits, her face wearing a weird look.
At night, she snuggles near the fireplace in her warm nook.
Excellent vigil she is, so the old man enjoys his slumber.
Thus his life is peaceful for she signals to him signs of danger.
One eve however, comes an irritable knock at the door.
The cat emits a meow so strident that shakes the wooden floor.
Annoyed , the old man pushes open the door and peers around.
Over the hill there is an orange glow while mist sweeps the ground.
A pretty lady appears of nowhere to whom he knows no link.
She has yellow eyes with iris black and hair held high in a kink.
A graceful move to engineer a curtsy ; he kindly invited her
In, not having an iota of thought to what meant her generous purr.
A costly mistake of a genial host or golden moment of life ?
The lady grasps gently his hand and he feels in his heart twist a knife.
In a vortex he is carried while the order of things comes to light.
He feels exalted as he recognises his beloved wife, in flight.
They both landed, in the dark dense woods with some patches of moonlight.
To their true forms they revert ; two tigers are united that night!
