Americans Love To Hate Their Leaders

They hated Nixon for being too formal
though he made relations with China normal
They hated Ford for pardoning Nixon
though his own future he was risking

They hated Carter for his toothy smile
though for M-E peace he went the extra mile
They hated Reagan for his patriotism
though he toppled the Berlin Wall, ending that schism

They hated George Bush Sr. for his oil wells
though they cheered him when Saddam fell
They hated Clinton for his sexual escapades
though they let him off the hook anyway

They hated Bush Jr. for his principled stands
though he took down the evil Taliban
They hated Obama for his constant preaching
And they hate Trump for Constitutional 'overreaching'

I hope Joe Biden is ready to be hated
For as the next President that's what fated

...that's the 2-party system....'us against them'.....never fails.....the u..s. needs another party or two....so the government becomes more socialized....for the people .....not the billionaires club.......stan sand

I never hated Obama. I cannot imagine that anyone could. Unfortunate. Many Americans are haters. Sadly.

Really?! I think that Obama was the most hated President since Reagan. History has swept the hatred for Ronnie under the rug... Of course, Trump is probably the most hated ever. As for Biden, it's hard to hate a ghost. lol. :) gw

Thanks for the love on this, Charlie. Thanks you don't 'hate it!' lol. As for hating our leaders, how much does it help our country? Point is, it doesn't. Anyway, here's to you, your family, your health and your prosperity. Blessings and Bounty, Gershon

I think all prominent politicicians are so much in the public eye and in the media, that humans must have someone to dislike, so why not someone who makes the rules by which we must abide! Politics and religion are the two most talked about social systems in the world. The British loved Churchill in the beginning but hated him towards the end. Excellent poem. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

Humans are negative by nature. All are hated for something or other. We remember negative, positive usually forgotten. Great write.

Interesting point you bring up, Rama. I try to ask myself every morning: Have you (Gershon) said anything positive today yet? Have you complimented anyone yet? ... Works wonders. Thanks, Rama! :) gw

Every body wants to be in control and when it don't go their way out pours the hate. John Lydgate quote comes to mind, Emilia : )

Whoa. I see there's a LOT of Lydgate from which to select. What a prodigious output on that poet's part. :)

Hello Gershon … yes , it’s a trait that endures so to become leader they best have a thick skin - Lindsay

That's the idea, Lindsay... Ability to laugh at oneself, to not take oneself so seriously does wonders too. Last President we had who could do that was George Bush, Jr. Whatever one thought of him, at least he could take a joke. As for Obama, UGH, and Trump, another UGH in that department. Cheers, Gershon

I suppose that love and hate are so extreme that they arch back and meet in the middle. Thanks, Anne-Lise. :) gw
