America At Her Best

There is plenty of room for living here on earth
47 percent of the USA is unoccupied, for what it’s worth
And, if that statistic astounds,
In other countries, more space abounds
Over 80 percent of Canada is not being used
While people in crowded parts of the world are abused
Might not some shuffling be in order …
An acre of land for those knocking at our border
And, if they cultivate it and make it thrive (i.e. Israel)
Give them another two, three, four, or five
To help alleviate the food shortages, we currently know
America is at her best when we are helping her grow!

Too political... I'm a simple man just passing by...

Pashang, nothing political in this poem...just putting in a good word for doing something to help the world's hungry. Thanks for your read and your comment.

America has always been at her best, its some that don't want to share.

Thanks for your thoughts, Eve. So true, but we are such a great country and have so much and it seems many other folks around the world have so little. I'm a big proponent of sharing!

Homes are going upwards not outwards, with little or no gardens whatsoever. whatever happened to the houses that were built on 1/4 or 1/3 of an acre blocks. This used to be the norm in Australia.

Absolutely. I get tired of hearing people say we are too crowded to take in people who are hurting, afraid, and have no life! Then, I get angrier when they are unwilling to bear a few burdens financially for the sake of the "huddled masses." We are better people when we share what we have been blessed with.

Words of wisdom Milton, I'm all for helping those who are prepared to help themselves. Tom

I certainly believe that is true, Andrea.

Nice one! Native Americans were forced to live on inhospitable land (until minerals or fossil fuels were discovered) yet managed to survive by their respect for Mother Earth. Building Back Better should be developing digital-age cities on inhospitable land so New Orleans and other disaster zones can revert to agricultural use . . . .but Congress is still in that "No Irish Need Apply" state of mind . . . ..
