The amaranth is known as the immortal plant due to its unique ability to retain its colours for months after being uprooted. One of Aesop's fables tells compares the rose and the amaranth, in which the amaranth praises the rose for its beauty and popularity, and was told that while a rose's life is fleeting, the amaranth is everlasting.

Nutritionally, the red amaranth (A. caudatus) is known to have anthelmintic, antinociceptive, antipyretic, anticancer, antiallergenic, antidiabetic, immune system stimulation, cardioprotective, hepatoprotective, and antibacterial properties. It also possesses high amounts of fiber and minerals, and could help decrease hypertension and cholesterol.

A tender stalk stood by the lane They say this plant can never wane Afar, it seemed a meager weed Apart from its collar, which bleeds Red blossoms, themselves wanting charm Yet, its tassel's seeds resist harm The amaranth's unfading bloom A shining hope against dark gloom

Thank you. I've been wanting to write a poem about this plant since doing an art prompt to draw a character based on a plant. Good thing I found a suitable form for it.
