Alzheimer's Is Enough

Worries were over.
It was time for you to leave.
You were ungrateful during your presence.
How many lives you have stolen,
during your presence.
You came as a thief in the night,
Without warning to stay.

It was time for you to leave.
What more do you want from us?
Who will be your next victim?
You have no pity or compassion.
We do not deserve this anymore.
I will not allow you to take another life.

Now I want to replace you,
To give back hope and life.
No more suffering.
No more sadness and loneliness.
We deserve to live more,
until the last second of life,
with memories full of stories.

It was time for someone to replace you.
That will be me through this poetry.
I'll seek your antidote to defeat you.
I will call it the right to live,
full of memories.
Until the last day of life.
Alzheimer's is enough!

Your words brought a tear to my eye. Alzheimers is like a thief in the night stealing away the person right in front of your eyes. My mum has memory issues and my heart goes out to anyone who suffers from dementia of any sort:-( hugs Jan xx

Thank you for your words. I saw my mother-in-law who lived her last years with this disease. It's like stealing a whole history of memories that we built for years.
