All Through the Night
All Through the Night
By Jan Beaumont
As I get older I don't sleep as much
I'm awake quite a bit of the time
And lately I find when I'm out for the count
That I seem to be dreaming in rhyme!
This poetry lark's taken over my life
And though it could be so much worse
I often wake up after 2 or 3 hours
Then just lie there and plan some new verse.
The subjects are varied, I never know just
what narrative lurks in my mind
My Captain Tom poem was written at 3
And that night sleep was left far behind.
I've written 'bout chocolate and wanting to buy
all the things that appear on the screen
The Single Sock Saga was written at 4
If a poet you'll know what I mean!
And then there's the people all over the world
Who message me during the night
And I can't help myself ... I have to reply
Not to answer just wouldn't seem right!
But you know its been great and I'd not give it up
Its just as much fun as it seems
So I guess that's my lot and I'll have to accept
It's now what I do in my dreams! ??
