All These Shoulds
Intense gazes
catch me right in the chest
bowl me over
with misplaced emotions.
Too many times
have I fallen
and jumped back
into the saddle
Maybe I shouldn’t get up
this time.
With meanings
so unclear
I search for
a solid foothold
that one topic
not internally masochistic.
Hours of taking apart
people, lives
have spread
the pieces of me
out on the table too.
Maybe I should
let go and fall
off this mountain
talk a mile a minute
in those poisonous topics
leave this puzzle unfinished.
If those emotions
don’t fit in this world
maybe I should
find a new one.
