All Night the Rain
All night the rain poured and poured and poured
I could not imagine a sky's heart broken so
Loudly the trees sobbed, and winds also roared
Some loneliness in me rose too to overflow
No stars nor moon nor any light from heaven came
A dark cloud consumes the forms and shapes
And in the blackness everything appears the same
Out of my heart a shudder, a horror escapes
To ponder if this cloudburst stays and never cease
The water rising from ponds, rivers, and the sea
And Orion widening and widening to show the east
Preparing the fire for the beast, and we cannot flee
The fire after the water coming, and the rain all night
And trees shaking to show the earth vibrating
And prayers found in us revives anew the old delight
Man and God intersects and sweet interceding.
