                                           a half-full bottle of spirits
                                           This is his life
                                           a day without sunshine
                                           He hears the lions roaring
trying to block out the sound

Anne Lise, the spectacular imagery and metaphor in this evokes the many emotions felt when I see some of these poor souls living on the streets of Las Vegas, Nevada. It puts in perspective how we are kind of helpless to change someone who has chosen these circumstances and lost control of their personal freedom. The sound of the lion roaring is so powerful.

This is a very good poem. Beautifully understated and spot on. I have had major problems with alcohol for many years and have been sober for 4 months now. XX

EXCELLENT! My adopted son, both parents are alcoholics... it's sad to watch. The kids became unappreciated parents to them... Finally one had to run away to us... or be hurt. Now he overlooks... that his mom has somewhere to stay... and he makes sure her rent is paid. She was homeless 11 times in less than 3 years... And she spews hate when she's drunk... which is every night... sad...

Good work. As a recovered alcoholic I can appreciate how others perceive alcoholics. I was cured one day when I, sober at the time, came in daily contact with a hard core lush. I decided that if I looked like that to others, then I must stop! It took me a few weeks, but I finally licked it. This is some 20 years ago by now. Love, daver

Stunning and realistic descriptions, my friend! This reminds me of a verse in the bible that talked about sloths... "going nowhere in a slothful manner, they fear there might be lions on the street"... not word for word, but that was the gist of it. Definitely one of your better ones... you should be proud of this poem!

A life being an alcoholic -it's so sad. I don't think they can do it on their own -kicking the habits. Only God can help. Thanks for putting what they would think into words, Anne-Lise. Great one!
