Aftermath

Sometimes it feels like the fire within
Will slowly consume me, overflow the brim
Red soaring flames, ignited by love
Heaven smiles on me, manna from above

Love, hope and mercy, basic human needs
The fire within me, it slowly feeds
On the pain that I carry, heavy and swollen
Belief in myself, paradise stolen.

Soft grey ashes, the memories black
In the distance plays a broken laugh-track,
The haunting melody hangs on the air
If love is so painful, why do I still care?
