After Effects

The bitter acid writhes and whirls
Moving like the sails unfurled
Whipping and cracking my inner self
Wearing down my spiritual health

It burns with a smoldering pain
Feeling right up and through my brain
The glowing coals and embers too
That burn my innards through and through

The tingling skin is far from nice
Like my entire form is made from lice
I can itch and scratch to no avail
Still the parasites will prevail

Hands as steady as a bridge of rope
Shaking and trembling can’t hold the soap
My strength is fading, slipping away
Not even enough for me to pray

My walls were breached insidiously
The enemy walked in happy and free
To strike in the unprotected quarter
My love, my soul they did just slaughter.
