Afghanistan 2021
They thought that their sad past was over,
They surely thought they were protected,
By Brit and American soldiers,
Their pulling out wasn't detected.
They thought that they had a government,
With strong Support shown by the West,
And that those engaged in their politics,
Were only there to do their best.
But Biden thought they’d played their part now,
Decided it was time to go,
The baton passed over to the British forces,
What should we do? They didn’t know.
And then their foreign minister, useless,
He hadn’t really got a clue,
Just lay on a beach on vacation,
Not knowing what he ought to do.
He didn’t even pick up the phone,
To try hard at talking things through,
Just sipped on another cold cocktail,
Then later denying that too!
Some women beat up cos they’re active,
Others for working with the West,
Of just for allowing their girls into school,
No more can they pass any test!
Can we do our bit to stop this tragedy?
will we just wash our hands of it all?
Like Nero who fiddled while Rome was ablaze ,
And just let democracy fall?
Are we in the year 2021?
Or are we back in middle age?
Why can we let this be happening?
A tragic, sad, moral outrage.
Killing people just for being humane,
Then later lie about it all,
“We won’t now be taking out any revenge”
The lie that can hurt and appall.
So what is our role in all of what’s occurred?
And what defences had been built?
There’s only one thing we should be feeling now,
Unmitigated total guilt!
