Adversity's Bridge
Moving shadows in the night
Revealed within my path,
Adversity's bridge looms ahead
Beckoning with wrath.
Girders loosed by rust and ruin
Beneath the shifting sands,
Cascading rapids scale the pier
To claim the ones it can.
Calamity waits for all that pass,
Forbidding them to cross.
Broken dreams and wasted hope
Will be their final cost.
Prevailing still of silenced prayer
From those that fell before,
Adversity's bridge has cast them all
Onto despairing shores.
Constant spans of timbered truss
Abandoned, without care.
Wailing sounds of yielded hope
Linger for me there.
Beneath the buckling girders boil,
A chasm. Stirred again.
Foreboding sound of bubbling rifts
Prey on my sad chagrin.
'Death of Hope' I hear your calls,
In violent streams they flow.
Your rivers deep have beckoned me
To despairing shores below.
But Lo, a different call I hear,
In Him, my faith secure.
The long embrace of His true Love
Gives hope that will endure.
I brace my step upon this Rock,
That does not shift like sand.
My hope was sealed one day, long passed,
With nails, into His hands.
He quickens me to walk within
The strength of His own Spirit.
A sure embrace in times like these
Protects, that I may bear it.
Behold! My Hope is at your end,
O' Bridge of ruin and rust.
In steady step I now can pass,
With Him, the One I trust.
Rivers long, within my path,
We surely meet again.
As Bridges of Adversity
Draw me near to HIM.
