Addiction

Addiction is born of unresolved grief,
a mind-dulling, voracious, cold hearted thief.
Over time, it becomes a burdensome beast,
piling stone upon stone as its scope is increased.

Emotional, spiritual, physical pain,
smothered and silenced by numbing the brain.
Sobriety, we think, would drive us insane,
ironic, the mirror we choose for cocaine.

The morning, of course, brings no relief,
the sadness and sickness is tenfold increased.
We must keep the emotions from being released,
for addiction is born of unresolved grief.

Truer words could never be spoken..It's a wonderful rhyme..though sad it has that special ring of reality..So many people today are just wasting their lives away on the drug scene everywhere..Thanks for sharing...One thing I almost forgot to ask....Does it have to be an animal to enter your contest...I have a pet, is the reason I ask but he isn't an animal...check him out to see if he's eliglble..see "Baby Bug"..Best wishes for New Years...Lawrence in Lou.
