ACHIEVERS
Satisfaction is relative, not absolute.. . . .
- Boys in the garbage heaps outside Calicut, *
Searching for scraps of plastic or cotton or glazed clay,
Find a whole empty coke-can : it is the prize of the day.
- A kid in LA finding a new i-pod under his Christmas tree,
- Or a junior-prom girl given a Rolex by daddy -
All these kids enjoy the envy and admiration of their friends
And fall asleep as achievers at the day’s end.
