Absent Heart

How can it feel that one true love
Cause as much harm as this?
Tis not the fault of the lover’s heart
But because of the unremarkable bliss

Love can be met in other ways
Than one sees with the eye
But sometimes those other things
Make our insides die

The heart that is absent from the lover’s grasp
Where the warmth cannot be felt
Is like the earth with no sun and the fish with no sea
And the cop without his belt

Alas, the spell is broken
While the lovers lay side by side
Nothing but thoughts of happy dreams
And no angry thoughts to hide

But soon divine love will show the way
To an everlasting peace
And forever eliminating such treacherous times
And the absent heart at ease
