Absence Makes the Heart

Listen to poem:
Your absence hurts me, Like a persistent toothache Or a pair of too-tight shoes. But, worse, your hard face, When finally we meet, Leaves me panicked, gasping: A doomed and thrashing swimmer, Drowning in your indifference.

A strong start and an even stronger finish; between the idea and the reality, as T.S. Eliot said, falls the shadow. Great penning!
