A World We Once Had

As I look out my window,
between cold iron bars,
at a world I can no longer touch.

I'm reminded of times,
that were filled with joy,
though now a distant memory they are.

I must conform to the rules,
my new society holds,
as patients is none there virtue,

So I must atone,
for all my wrongs,
for those who control deem it so.

My time thus far,
be not filled with joy,
as days torturous go by.

For the memories I hold,
of the world outside,
seem like another life time ago.

time be the enemy,
all inmates have,
as memories are all we have.

reliving our lives daily,
inside out heads,
about a world that we once had.
