A World Apart

The world outside, it shines so bright; And every breath of wind – so warm Should comfort with its sweet caress, The inner realm of rain and storm But summer’s kiss still cannot break, The spell of frost, nor soothe the ache That binds my spirit to the ground, Where only suffering surrounds The space between, I cannot bridge, So rests a place where each might share, The welcome of another world, Though neither, for the other, cares And so the sun, for all her warmth, Will never reach this place beyond; And so the trees, for all their hues, Can never, to this face, respond For here lies storm which never dies, And though inviting Earth will try To calm the seas so deep and dark, It will remain a world apart.
