A Walk In the Wood
Strolling thru the wood on this warm summer night,
Enjoying the breeze in the waning light,
Lilac and pine are filling my senses,
Primrose and Morning Glory climbing the fences.
Barred Owl and Nightingale are questioning me,
Glimpses of deer now easy to see,
Off the Sycamore and Red Oak tall shadows fall,
Hiding the wolf and his soulful call.
Lake Loon and turtles are making their splashes,
As into the water the bullfrog dashes,
Clicking of bats flitting in the air,
Chirping of raccoons and the huffing of a bear.
I stop for a moment and listen to it all,
And I cannot begin to recall,
A better symphony than I hear tonight,
As I wander the wood on this warm summer night.
