A View To the Killing

Why are people killing each other?
You are asking me?
As I am here loading my gun,
getting ready for a deadly spree.

We kill for various reasons,
as history will often tell.
Think of all the battles fought,
and all those in them who fell.

Cain first killed because of jealousy,
but only wars are listed after him.
Who was the second man to kill,
was it in need or only a whim?

Wars have been fought for plunder,
for power, for freedom, for territory.
In each of these men have killed,
throughout all of history.

The motivations have not much changed,
and we still try to justify the death.
Even now as I load my gun,
I speak hatred under my breath.

In reality, the reasons may vary,
some poor injustice or slight.
Someone's corner sells more dope,
So now we must have a fight.

The one thing that kills the most is love,
as we watch it fall in blood and pain.
Yet that is what we are killing in ourselves,
in the love we seek to gain.

Each of us wants to be loved,
I do, as even now I put the bullets in my gun.
But each one I load kills one more piece of love,
mine, yours, and everyone's under the sun.

Thanks, Debbie. Your subject was a little on the dark side, but you did not ask for Star Wars, so I was a bit mystified.
