A Very Lonely Christmas

When your all alone
When theres nobody there
Should you even have a christmas tree at all
To just sit there bare

When the kids are all grown
When your no longer their thing
When they've all made other plans
ouch let the christmas bells ring

Christmas's past
Often spent on my own
I guess Im not that fun at christmas
So again i'll spend it alone

So have a very merry christmas
And I'll try too you see
To have a very merry christmas
If it were just meant to be

Nice write, my kids are grown as well 32 and 37. So I've had these thoughts, but I think it's only one day :- )

Your line should you have a xmas tree at all and 'bare' is so poignant and describes the emotions that you dont include but dont need to with this line. And the ouch you use is clever, yes it conjures up the physical pain of loneliness that xmas can highlight. A very good poem and i enjoyed it. You arent alone now you are on Soup!

You are not alone! I go through the same most Christmas season and I don’t have kids. Nice poem. Very well said. Good for others to know we are out there. Good thing for Netflix binging. ;)

That's what you thought Anything you do For good or for bad Won't be remembered In the very end That's what you thought I read it. I liked it. I'll remember. In the grand scheme of things More than anything I could ever be (Nonexistent do exist) The stars echoing Through the sky All completely good. Really good.

Strong points on what is the same for many. With aging, life and changes, we will find things do become different. Figuring out whether we still want to keep up or not is hard. We find a way in the end. Always. Our decision. Our choice.
