A Tragic Cycle

Hearts succumb to tragedies, lead by pseudo eternities Reaching out once more, in futility For a spoken hope, that is void of action Watching success bloom, breeding envy toward a friend The cycle is harsh, every new beginning enticing an old end. True to become emotionless, could be a choice Not for the loveless though, who crave an affordance that was never had Engagements of shallowness, reaching the depths of another Regret drowns, responsibility taken for oneself Assigning blame to the deserving, taboo in an era of moving on. Memories fade away, even as a fondness is sowed through time's progression Thinking of what could be, if remains were to be salvaged Seeing the change of a status, as a diminishment of self-worth Mourning a being that breathes, discarding sentiments that were cherished The pain is temporary it is said, even when it feels like a promised eternity. Walls built, an attempt at fortification Doors never considered, rationality often a foe to impulsivity Desperation soon becomes a chisel, to loneliness's hammer Through each crack made, subterfuge seduces confidence Efforts made to protect, crushed by a need to believe. Life and lessons learned, the common reasoning quoted The world is not for the sensitive, be attentive to its affairs Cry pales until a well is filled that consumes height Humanity has become cold, or maybe it is just a cynic's eye Touch a corpse to feel alive, ironic how warmth oozes then.
