A Thousand and One Denials

The very breath I breathe each day Is imprisoned by your name A captive of my heart's desire With only your beauty to blame I dare not close my eyes to sleep For I'm haunted by your smile Like the serpent in the Garden Your purpose is to beguile Even your shadow takes my breath And causes my heart to stare Forgetting to beat as you pass by From the moment it sees you there The flowers look on with envy Knowing they can't compete The magical smell of your perfume Makes the flowers incomplete Your name has held a thousand lips Your beauty, a thousand smiles At least a thousand broken hearts Now, a thousand and one denials
