A Song Unsung

A song unsung is not a song Until the music plays. And the verse meant to come alive Is just a meaningless phrase. But there is no song without the words That give meaning to it all And to separate the two will bring Nothing you’ll recall But if the two are blended In a very special way Something magic happens That you don’t see every day. You’ll find rhythm in the music, And a rhyme for all the words And if you listen closely Angels can be heard. To put it all together May seem a mighty chore For what you’re really looking for No one’s heard before. The words may come from wisdom Or from deep within your heart And the chord that brings these words to life Requires a very special art Then, when you think it’s finished, And all the work is done Just give it one more edit And then enjoy the fun. This is something I've never been able to do... put music to words (or vica-versa). There is magic in it, yes, but there's also that other magic that happens when music plays WITHOUT words. How music can communicate without the need for speaking... both are not to be underestimated. Enjoyable read!

You are wise in your evaluation. Even wordless melodies become songs when joined with feelings in our hearts. They then become uniquely ours.... Thanks ..... Jake

What Duke said... (Just kidding, Jake). A fantastic poem, and Duke did pretty much say it all. Cheers, Roy

John. This is beautiful. A really wonderful statement on the creative process. I don't get many people reading old work posted a while back. You are always welcome. I will try to read more of your work when I have a chance since it is such a pleasure.
