A Song For Alice
she always answered to the name of alice
and lived alone in her own reality
wandering along a lonely highway-
that led to places no one else could see
holding conversation with the shadows
that drift across the walls of this old home*
where the restless voices go on calling-
from the corners of her mind where they all roam
alice has a visitor this evening-
an acquaintance she had known from way back when
a sudden understanding grows upon her
and she knows they'll be together once again
and somewhere under cover of the darkness
two spirits slip away into the night
in love,by light of moon the silent partners-
kiss and simply vanish from all sight
a nurses aide is making rounds this morning
and she finds her lying by her bedroom door
she calls her name but alice doesn't answer-
for alice doesn't live here anymore
she calls her name but alice doesn't answer-
for alice doesn't live here anymore
*old folks or nursing home
