A Single Step Back

Pushing against; pushing against what?
I walk the cold concrete and feel pushed back,
pushed back by what? Every day I think trees moved left
then in the blink of an eye their back.
In position to move again the least I expect it.
I sculpt an urn and leave it, 15 minutes and it's gone
where did it go I wonder, then I see it again.
Like it never moved, I got pushed back,
pushed back by what?
Every light of happiness resisted,
every reach of insight withheld,
I feel pushed back again.

Most days seem backwards, then it slows, sometimes stops-
before beginning again, never knowing how it happens, or did it just happen again?
What just happened? Is anything ever sure?
But it pushes us back, one step at a time till we're at the beginning again,
thinking we moved forward.
