A Simple Pen

A Simple Pen Ever since my first childhood days When I just learnt to shape letters, When I learnt to frame simple words And to grasp the law of numbers A simple pen has been my friend And my acquaintance for ever. During my early student days My simple pen remained my mate To take part in numerous tests, That surely sealed my future fate And for still higher school studies Fortunately opened the gate. All along higher study years T he simple pen was my comrade, For ever present by my side, Never destined to shrink or fade, But quite prompt to inscribe its mark And keen to reach the upper grade. Despite widespread use of laptops, In the office my simple pen Remains my closest associate And, indeed, my handiest friend To convey to subordinates Agreements on their proposals And strategies to formulate For pressing constraints to abate. At home alongside my keyboard Sits my simple pen, quite ready T o catch some emotions on board, Gushing from the depth of the heart, Or the ponderings of the mind And store them securely apart That I may, without ado, find In case of need of any kind. My simple pen has been perceived Not to gush out ireful venoms, But to register and conceive Divine hymns and uphold virtues Of love, peace, justice and liberty And extol the rightful values Of honesty and integrity, Of gratitude and deference, Of humbleness and modesty. I t has been devised to express Emotions gathered in tranquility, Thoughts and reflections collected In the depth of serenity And convey utterings of the soul With the aim of ushering peace To the mind and spirit as a whole And imparting a sense of bliss. My simple pen does not pretend To be mightier than the sword Or the rifle of a warrior, But it may scribble gentle words That may outlive a scary soldier`s Savage acts on the battlefield And may inspire human souls A just and peaceful world to build. As a close friend, my simple pen For ever keeps me company, Whether amidst the common men Or amidst mighty business lords, Whether in the country or abroad And I pray the Almighty Lord That it will still rest by my side Until the last breath I can afford.
