A Secret Place

To catch your eye
wells up old feelings,
grinning as you stroll by
raising my heart to the ceiling.

Love felt for so long,
a pure love lost in time.
What went wrong?
Why were you never mine?

I wonder now and then
why we never even tried.
I suppose we were not meant
to be side by side.

Innocent love from long ago
locked in a secret place
so you will never know
unless you see it in my face.
