A Secret Kept

He knew he'd suffer a cruel persecution
He performed all that was needed for ablution.
Certain secrets, as a priest, he could not disclose
Indeed, he chose thorns for himself, not any rose.

He went with his secret as a lynx or a fish.
To be steadfast in his faithfulness was his wish.
For a secret's sake, he's ready to face a sword.
Would he confide his heart to his master and lord?

Yes, Jesus understands and can comfort. Sometimes it is nice to be able to tell at least one person, but Jesus and the Holy Spirit are so much more than a friend. Thank you for sharing this one with us. Sara K

Well done, I like where you took the prompt and the write that evolved. That's the best part of contests to me - they spark the 'muse flame' for a poem like this. CayCay
