A Secret is a Secret Until You Die

A Secret is a Secret — still —
Though whispered — into Air —
It learns the Art of Silence —
And keeps its Vesture — fair —

It walks beside the Centuries —
Unnoticed — by the Sun —
Nor Time — nor Truth — can beckon it
When once its Oath — is done —

It sleeps within the Human Heart —
A Seed no Hand can claim —
Too sacred — for the Voice of Day —
Too shy — to answer Name —

Confession knocks — but enters not —
Repentance — waits outside —
For Secrets choose their own Abode —
And there — they bide — and bide —

So hush — the Thought that trembles so —
And let it safely be —
A Secret is a Secret — kept
For all — Eternity —
