A Scream

Dark days and gloomy nights,
Drowning in the whirlpool of life,
Feelings of weakness, helplessness, and fright,
Running through a maze of never-ending strife.

A scream lies trapped within my chest,
A cry for rescue, for salvation.
My weary bones are begging for rest;
Life seems an endless abomination.

“What never breaks you makes you strong”—
That’s what I have always believed.
Yet many times, I have been proved wrong,
Nearly losing all that I had achieved.

But then, what is life without hope?
What is darkness without the light?
You pull yourself up and cling to the rope;
Whatever went wrong, you try to make right.

You bear in mind those who matter the most;
You find the strength and will to press on.
You face all your fears, confront every ghost,
And hope for the break of a brand-new dawn.

Your will grows strong; you endure the rain.
You move ahead, though the path is long.
You rise, you struggle, you carry the pain—
Yet the scream in your chest lives on.
