A Returnee's View

The sea is still green and the sky still blue
Like before I went away
The mountains kiss clouds in a misty hue
Nothing has changed since that day
But the village have many new houses
And all the foot tracks are gone
So too are old men and their dear spouses
There's fresh grave on the lawn.

The village no longer frolics or runs
Barefooted over sharp rocks
And night echoes with exploding guns
And doors have many frail locks.
Where stood the forest now cement and steal
Makes new, stark environment
O the village is silent and I feel
A sudden, deep enstrangement

With all this name brand clothes, there is no play
Children are locked long inside
Where electronics hum in midst of May
The sea has wasted good tide.
Where are my friends, and the old nights of glee
Where the far voice calling loud
From yard to yard, and the ring games to see?
Why are we no longer proud?

The sea is still green and the sky still blue
Like before I went away
But time has changed and mother is gone too
Nothing good ever can stay.
The material world too tragic sings
And the spirit fled leaves dust
Dreams may come, but on heavy broken wings
We are nothing now but crust.
