A Quick Goodbye

Shall I see another year
when even now I begin to disappear.

Most of my family, large as it was
now contain only the remaining few of us.

In my dreams I'm drifting back in time
in search of memories I no longer find.

Every second, every hour, every day I spend
counts to draw the nearness of the end.

How did it happen, how did time so quickly pass
when a moment that was now could never last?

Hold my hand, whisper in my ear
tell me you love me with every goodbye tear.

I'm here, listening, still waiting, still alive
forget me not and I will always survive.

Time though has made its choice
to which I have no voice.

Just a little longer as the old year passes away
if it were my plan, I'd gladly stay.

But much like time that never seems to stay
a quick goodbye I send your way.
