A Priest's Testimony

A PRIEST’S TESTIMONY

I went into the holy place like I did every year,
But something happened on that day that drove my heart to fear.
For just as I gave God the lamb that would atone for me,
I thought I heard a rumbling noise, so I went out to see.
The one called Christ was on a cross and hanging limp and dead,
And as I talked to those who saw, they told me what He’d said.
“His last words uttered on the cross were words of triumph, true;
He shouted, ‘It is finished!’ and He died for me and you.”
I did not realize it just then, but when I went again
Into the temple, I saw the veil, and it was rent in twain!
And suddenly it came to me: there was no holy place!
The way was clear for all to come, made open by His grace.
And so I came to Him that day; I came “just as I am.”
Without the sacrifice I’d had, but with Him as my Lamb!
