Notes About The Poem

This Actress here, Mayim Bialik. Her nose is kind of like mine and I am pleased to learn she never had plastic surgery.

A Poem Upon My Nose

As noses go, I’d say mine is okay
if it is viewed by someone from the front.
But if you look at it another way,
it’s not so wonderful; let me be blunt.

My nose is long, and if you’re in a place
where other women are along with me,
take note of how my nose fits on my face.
Sideways it could be the longest you’ll see.
.
Imagine please, if you will, a Roman nose,
which means a nose that is a little bent.
A nicer-sounding word for it I suppose
is “aquiline.” But what by that is meant?

For me, the word “aquiline” sounded chic.
But then I looked it up and got a shock.
I learned it means shaped like an eagle’s beak,
which is also larger than that of a hawk.

What in my DNA presupposes
that I have Italian blood, which I have not?
Most of my sisters have short, cute noses.
Why is it that a Roman nose I got?

Few great actresses have a nose like mine,
but I can think of one whose look is great.
Barbara Streisand – is her nose divine?
That’s a nose folks either love or hate!

That bump - that famous bump! Streisand never
had plastic surgery to make it small.
My role model is she. I endeavor
to love my nose. It stands out – after all!

Never even think of anything like plastic surgery... We all have insecurities, esp. when it comes to our noses... You are so beautiful... Cheers

well, i just had to comment on this one, andrea! because whenever i've seen pics of you i can honestly say i've never noticed or thought your nose was abnormally large..what stands out to me is your nice smile, your lovely hair, the youthful aura you have about you..i think we're often far more critical of ourselves than other people are; most likely, they don't even notice :)

From the front, I look ok. Sideways is when you can tell, but fortunately most people do not care like when I was a teenager with glasses and pimples on top of everything else!

It is also a Jewish nose or what could be said Mediterranean. My husband's father and his father's sister had that kind of nose and they are part Irish. So I guess they crop up in so many places. You are unique, one of a kind, there has never been another like you nor will there be another like you. Whew!! Thanks for sharing this one with us and for dropping by my page. If this is for a contest, it reads like a good contender to me. Way to go. Sara K

Sara, I found a website today that talked about actors who "used to" have ugly noses. They showed the before and after pictures, and i swear only one person looked better. Some of the ones that to me actually looked just as good, if not better before surgery, are Patrick Dempsey, Zac Efron, Bruce Jenner, Ryan Gosling, Ryan Seacrest, Robert Patterson, Mickey Rourke, Ashton Kutcher and even Tom Cruise. Their noses were never ugly. Shame on the media for saying that. I think Stallone (despite his face lift) never changed his nose, and I really like the looks of Owen Wilson and Adrian Brody, so I hope they leave well enough alone. they look awesome to me!

Yes, I've seen Irish with it too. And I am part Irish. I guess it appears for some races about as often as red hair when it comes along!!

Wonderful thinking and poetry. I wonder what made you decide to write this one at this time. You are beautiful in every way. The world is not such a nice place. I was teased as a child for a lot of things, and it hurt at the time. It's interesting that certain things never leave us. There's a commonality with the last comment on your brother and deer.

Thanks, Duke. What's really strange is that my mother-in-law would say things about it, but her nose was a real honker. Just big, and nothing elegant about it. hahaha

I'm ok with it now. But i got teased by a few people which made me sad. My Japanese students tell me that it's considered very attractive. maybe since they all have short noses?? I wonder if they were lying to me . hahaha

Yes, I guess I am in a way. Not as beautiful as she is probably. I love her eyes and those are my best features as well.

well done, andrea! it would be great if we could all embrace our differences. when i was in high school, getting a "nose job" was a common thing, but often the new noses looked like they didn't belong on that person's face.

Yes, a long time ago I wanted a nose job. Streisand has said that many of the girls in her schools got them. Now at least she can be distinctive.

I loved her in big bang theory. She was sheldons wife. Fun character. And long nose is an indication of beauty. What a sincere and heartfelt poem this is sweet andrea. I loved reading this. Is this for self portrait contest? I bet will do very well: best wishes.

Yes, she was a great character in that movie. yes, this is for the self portrait contest. I have another poem that is quite long which describes my body . in fact I have two. I think they are both humorous!
