A Poem Is

Where would we be without poetry
We're born with the words trapped inside
They're written from pain we just can't sustain
And sealed with the tears that we've cried

A poem is like a long lost friend
That brings us comfort and peace
The pen understands as it sits in our hands
The words that we have to release

A poem is like a broken heart
Lonely, with no future in sight
We're lost with no choice it gives us our voice
And speaks through the words that we write

A poem is like a love song
Written for the love of your life
Through sickness and health, poverty or wealth
A promise to a husband or wife

A poem is what you make it
When it's written with all of your heart
So let your heart flow and empty your soul
It's always a good place to start
