A Peaceful Feeling
Today I wear a necklace with Billy's picture in it
And I feel no longer alone when I go about my life
For he is with me now for all the world to see.
I had an appointment to see about buying a mobile home
And as we talked getting acquainted
I mentioned reading my books
This young man was very excited.
And as I gave the story of my COWBOY AND ME
His eyes they did shine urgeing me on
For he had shared with me
He and his wife were to have a baby soon
He reached over and touched Billy's picture
And said, he had just mentioned to his wife
How often, couples married for years,
Tended to resemble one another
It was something I had never considered about us
But when I got home and looked closer
It was the truth I found.
As I look in the mirrow
I don't know if I should feel sorry for Billy or not
For you see it gives me a plesant feeling
For he is still my KNIGHT IN SHINNING ARMOR
He is still here with me, for I have gotten signs
And the words we recited 'UNTIL DEATH WE DO PART'
Should have been 'FOR ALL ETERNITY' AMEN
