A Night of Changed Destiny
On the shores I watched disappear
Stands the family who raised me
Across the Atlantic awaits my future
Preparing our life of matrimony
In between lies destiny
Changing life’s course is her device
Cloaked, unseen in the moonlit night
As a floating island made of ice
Elbows rubbing elite elbows
My father’s parting gift
Sending me off in first class style
In hope of a caustic lifestyle shift
But pretending to be of a noble class
Hobnobbing with the upper crust
Will pay my bride no dividends
When in tragedy we are thrust
Some rich men proved to be cowards
Some rich men proved to be brave
Too many men of every class
Were sent to an early grave
After assisting as many as I possibly could
Into lifeboats they saved for me
I threw my tuxedo overboard
And sought second class company
On the shores I watched disappear
Tears were shed for a fallen son
Across the Atlantic a bride sits waiting
For a groom who would never come
