A New Year
The year has changed,
calendars and desk pads are rearranged,
what else is especially new;
birthdays, weddings, reminder notes,
perhaps hope?
The month has changed,
everything else remains the same,
what else is especially new;
the season, vacations, schemes,
perhaps dreams?
Our age has changed,
problems that we overcame,
what else is especially new;
our prayers for war to cease,
perhaps peace?
Nothing has changed,
turmoil and hate still remain,
- nothing is new...
