A New Heart

You were once the love of my life, but over the years,
things have changed.
Now you are my closest friend. Funny how life
gets rearranged.

Your pain and fear run through my veins, as
though they are my own.
I just want you to know, if it’s up to me,...
you’ll never be alone.

The journey you’re about to take has your life
 embraced in fear.
I was so afraid you’d shut me out. Not allow
me to be near.

But by your side I’ll stand faithfully and pray
for your rapid healing..
It’s not totally selfless though. I need you here
for my well-being.

For you have become a part of my life that
I couldn’t live without.
A lifetime of not hearing your voice, would
break my heart, no doubt!

So, keep this little poem of mine always
close to your heart.
And know that I’ll be by your side, to help you with
your “new start”.
