A New Game In Town

There sits birdseed in a box which used to have a plant growing in it. A planterbox full of birdseed brings lots of little Birds morning and eve. They fall from the sky. They make a big mess. Occasionally, Squirrel visits. His tail hangs down the side of the box as he eats the seed. When Human sees him, the door opens, and Squirrel is shouted away. I don't like shouting. She likes the birds better than Squirrel. But, there's a new game in town. I've decided to run out the door, chase Squirrel around the tree, then go back inside and wait to watch the birds return. But, oh yeah! Here comes Squirrel again so out I go. I'm Mister, the Dog. Thanks for the applause.

Creative twist in the end, I thought you were going to say you were a cat, yet as dog beat me to it. Beautiful write, and love the personification in here. Love Sami.

Wonderful, sue! This is a great twist, so inventive and catches the heart strings of all animal lovers. I have a big time every morning feeding the squirrels, watching one of the neighborhood cats try to catch the little critters. Sunken Cathedral is after the Debussy piano work of the same name. What cathedral it might be, I've no idea. Love, daver

Love this work, Sue! Those squirrels get my goat, especially when they frighten birds away from my neighbor's birdbath. "Mister" brought a big smile to my face. Delightful poem!

Very sweet poem, this made me laugh..What a fun sight to see, I don't see squirrels unless I am traveling around fields but my yard is always covered with birds, I put out bird seeds, or bread and crackers and a bowl of water for them and usually the loose dogs in the neighborhood chase the birds away and eat up their food...If I'm outside to see, I chase them away. This was really cute. Love the ending, the dog in charge..LOL, God Bless and Best Wishes Always, Tyesha

Hi Sue... loved this poem, it made me smile from ear to ear.... all I can say is... put out another box, near the tree, for the squirrel, make it as difficult to get into as you can, they love that :)

Sue, What a beautiful write. You seem to be a keen observer of all the games that are happening around you. Thanks for admiring my poem The Gardener and for appreciating my quote from Rubai'yat of Josh Mlihabadi. Josh is a poet of eminence in Urdu literature. So far as Rubai'yat is concerned there is no one to beat him. He is Umar Khayyam of Urdu Language. Rumi is agreat Persian master. No wonder you enjoy reading him. Also read GHALIB and JOSH MALIHABADI, if available in English. -Mohammad

~lol~ Surprise ending for me! Ha ha! Mister hear me clapping for you! Job well done. Sue this is too cute. When we used to have a bird feeder it was on a pole and we put vaseline on the pole so that when the squirrels tried to climb up, well they would slide down! If you didn't think we had a blast watching it was just so hilarious! Well, after all, they were eating all the bird's food! : ) Love, Shar
